Hello Everyone! This summer we are featuring example itineraries for the different EQ profiles outlined by the Canadian Tourism Commission. If you want to find out what kind of traveller type you are you can take the fun quiz (here)
Today’s EQ profile is the No-Hassle Traveller! According to the CTC you:
In the world of explorers, you are a No-Hassle Traveller. As a bit of an escapist, you search for relaxation and simplicity. You favour worry-free travel and spending time with family and friends. Short breaks and getaways are preferred to long-distance travel. Things rarely planned in advance; when you want to visit family and friends, you just go. Along the way, you hope to see and expose your travel companions to the beauty of natural scenery and different cultures.
You are flexible, rational, spiritual, careful, energetic, open-minded and a discriminating consumer.
Parks: Newcastle Island
Newcastle Island is an escape from the hustle and bustle of the city that the No-Hassle Traveller will love. Only a ten minute passenger ferry ride over to Newcastle Island you can spend the day exploring the many trails that the island has to offer. You can swim. hike, bike, have a picnic, snorkel, and so much more! If you’re up for it you can even camp on Newcastle Island at their Provincial Park tenting sites. Newcastle is great for a No-Hassle Traveller because all you have to do is pack a day bag, throw your shoes and sunscreen on, hop on the ferry and go – so much adventure is right before your feet.
Outdoors: Pipers Lagoon
This park offers so much for every traveler type. Abundant with natural beauty, Pipers Lagoon offers you the chance to explore many different types of beaches. You can also spend time swimming in the clear ocean waters and exploring and discovering sea creatures. As a No-Hassle Traveller you will love Pipers Lagoon because around every turn there is new natural beauty to uncover. Walking out the spit offers wonderful views but soon you’ll climb up and over a steep rocky area and find a path that meanders around the tree-covered tombolo.
Festival: BC Games Opening Ceremonies
The 2014 BC Summer Games, held throughout the city of Nanaimo, will welcome participants from all across BC including the Kootenays, Thompson-Okanagan, Fraser Valley, Fraser River Delta, Vancouver-Squamish, North West, Cariboo-North East, and Vancouver Island-Central Coast! Be sure to catch the can’t-miss opening ceremonies of the BC Summer Games at the Rotary Stadium at 7:00pm tonight (Thursday, July 17th)! Here, you’ll feel the buzz of excitement and anticipation from the athletes and spectators alike! A sure-fire way to get you energetic No-Hassle Travellers in the spirit of the BC Games!
Food: Trollers Fish & Chips
Stroll along our beautiful Harbourfront Walkway as you make your way to Trollers Fish & Chips for a much needed energy boost. Walk right up to the counter and order from a wide selection of menu items, including (most notably) freshly caught seafood. Try the classic fish & chips if you feel like experiencing west coast flavour! Or, if you prefer something on the lighter side, have your fish grilled to perfection! Once you place your order, grab a seat among your fellow diners and await your name to be called – as you wait, take in the beautiful sights, sounds, and smells of the harbour… love that salty sea air!
Theatre: The Port Theatre
Lastly, take in a show at Nanaimo’s Port Theatre! Lose yourself in the theatre – let your worries and stress melt away as you venture into a night of music, laughs, or drama. From plays to dance recitals, from live music to stand-up comedians, there’s sure to be something here for you! Like any major theatre, you can book your tickets in advance. But you’re a No-Hassle Traveller, you enjoy living on the fly! Which is why you can also buy tickets to events day-of (as long as the show’s not sold out!).
