Get to Know the Tourism Nanaimo Staff: Kara

Happy Monday, readers!

A few months ago we began introducing you to members of our team via a questionnaire on some of their favourite Nanaimo things. Last time we met Chelsea, Tourism Nanaimo’s Destination Marketing Officer. This week we welcome back Kara Walsh who just came back from maternity leave! Not only is Kara back, but she’s starting in a new position as the Destination Development Specialist!

In your opinion, what is Nanaimo’s best kept secret?

Mt. Benson. The view is spectacular. The mountain itself is not so much a secret but navigating yourself to the top is definitely a physical challenge. You need to have a good sense of direction and hiking experience.

What’s one place/event/activity in Nanaimo that you have not yet participated in but would love to one day?

Dragon Boating. I have been to the Dragon Boat Festival many times but have never actually paddled in a Dragon Boat. I think it would be a great team building activity and an awesome workout!

If a visitor was only in Nanaimo for one day, what would you recommend they must see?

A few stops on the Nanaimo Bar trail. You can eat yummy treats and explore Nanaimo at the same time!

What’s the most interesting/surprising thing you’ve learned about Nanaimo since working for Tourism Nanaimo?

I knew Nanaimo had some cool dive sites but I didn’t realize how well known and how popular of a spot we were among the dive community. Vancouver Island has some of the best cold water diving in the world!

Thanks Kara, and welcome back to the Tourism team! Well that’s it – you’ve met our super team. If you missed any other staff profiles, you can check them out here 🙂
