Arts & Christmas in Nanaimo

Hey it’s Kimberly again. Today I’m blogging about “Art and Christmas” – and I just HAVE to give some Christmas shopping ideas.

One of North America’s most collected clay artists lives in Lantzville. Who knew? Visit the Clayworks Studio this Christmas season and take home a little bit of the holiday spirit. Heather Goldminc has filled her treasured filled studio with all sorts of fun, elegant and whimsical hand made clay creations guaranteed to bring a smile to anyone on your Christmas list.  Highland dancing and ballerina sheep ornaments, candle houses, kissy fish and new this year, elegant lustred jelly fish with 22k gold hi-lights are just a few of the items lining the shelves and walls of this bustling studio. The studio is open 11-5 Monday to Saturday at 7060 Arbutus Crescent in Lantzville ,BC – Feel free to call ahead 250-390-1514. Tell her Kim sent you!

I love experiences – so tickets to shows are fantastic! Theatre One’s Fringe Flicks is a wonderful gift for the movie lovers on your list. Their 2016 movies are fabulous –  What We Did on Our HolidayMy Internship in Canada, Jimmy’s Hall,  Coming Home,  45 Years and Rams. You can get more information at

“Coming Home”

For the kids (you know, the ones that range from 5-100) they will LOVE this form of theatre – open yelling and booing is actually encouraged. This Nanaimo Theatre Group’s pantomime is based on the classic fairy tale The Emperor’s New Clothes. Filled with music, dancing and lots of laughter, this traditional pantomime is a wonderful holiday treat for the whole family. They have a lot of sold out shows, so book now! Don’t miss out.

I have a soft spot for the Vancouver Island Symphony – they have some wonderful shows and one is sure to be a great gift for someone you care about!  They have a nifty deck of cards all about Nanaimo too – great price point and showcasing many of our local artists.

For the treasure trove of awesome shows to choose from – head over to the Port Theatre So many great shows happening in 2016 – comedy, guitar performances, dance productions, theatre performances and… Raffi is coming!  Grab a tea or coffee and spend some time on their site, so much to experience.

These are just a few ideas for those on your holiday gift-giving list – hope you have a great time finding some local gifts!  All the best for the holiday season and we will talk more about the arts in 2016.

All the best,

Kimberly Plumley
