Featured Events: Vanocuver Island Chamber Music Festival

The Vancouver Island Chamber Music Festival is an annual festival of chamber music produced by the Nanaimo Conservatory of Music. This festival boasts two days of exciting and varied chamber music performed by professional musicians and is under the musical direction of Pippa Williams. FRIDAY APRIL 15TH

6:00-9:30pm: Nanaimo Kinsmen Beer Festival, Beban Park Social Centre, $30

The Nanaimo Kinsmen Beer festival is the midisland’s largest celebration of craft beer. So come out and enjoy some of the best local craft and imported beers from Nanaimo all the way up to Whitehorse. Chat with the different brewers and maybe learn something new about beer. All proceeds benefit Nanaimo charities & causes.

7:30pm: Collective Soul: See What You Started Tour (Live), Port Theatre, $77

Collective Soul, the multi-platinum selling band that helped sonically define alternative rock, released their long-awaited ninth album, “See What You Started By Continuing” and are kicking off their tour in Nanaimo.

7:30pm: Buying the Moose (Play), Cedar Community Hall, $20

The play offers rollicking fun based on astute observations on the differences between how men and women think and the resulting miscommunication between the sexes. Before all the problems are resolved, secrets that the characters would have preferred remain private are revealed, and the audience learns the meaning of Buying the Moose

7:30pm: Le Bourgeoise Trio and Pinnacle Brass, Nanaimo Entertainment Centre, $20

The trio of Geronimo Mendoza (Oboe), Roderick Seed (flute) and Jenny Dou (piano) have played to audiences around the world and Pinnacle Brass are Victoria’s premier brass ensemble. These performances are part of the 2016 Chamber Music Festival.

SATURDAY APRIL 16th

9:30-12:30pm: Art Lab Studio, Nanaimo Art Gallery, $12/child

Let your kids connect with artists, experiment with materials, learn new techniques, and have fun with art making.

10:00-2:00pm: Market Days, Hospital Commons, FREE

Celebrate spring and enjoy fresh produce and other locally made or sourced foods at our Farmer’s Market. Browse the pop-up shops by local businesses and take advantage of the promotions on offer by the regular businesses in the complex.

2:00pm:Vancouver Quartet and L’aube Enchantee, Nanaimo Entertainment Centre, $20

7:00pm: Dance Gala 2016, Port Theatre, $14.50

See some of Vancouver Island’s best and most entertaining dance groups performing their outstanding routines in town.

7:00pm: Island Consort, Gabriola United Church (Gabriola), $18/adult

Island Consort Chamber Choir presents music by Gibbons, Mozart, Brahms, Whitacre, Hawley, Erb and Esenvalds. Accompaniment includes, organ, piano, tenor sax, wine glasses and handbells. Enjoy a great concert on beautiful Gabriola, just a short ferry ride from Downtown Nanaimo.

7:00pm: Crissinger (live), Dinghy Dock Pub, FREE

In 2009 Mark began to focus on writing blues and roots-rock music. Since then, he has released five solo albums and played over 700 shows including twelve eastern Canadian tours and several west coast music festivals. See him in this one of a kind location, floating on the harbour.

SUNDAY FEBRAURY 17TH

10:00-2:00pm: Market Days, Hospital Commons, FREE

2:30pm: Nanaimo Concert Band Spring Concert, Port Theatre, $13.50

The band will perform a wide ranging musical repertoire including classical, big band, marches, show tune and more!

4:00-8:00pm: Sunday Blues Jam, The Queens, $5

This has become a premier Blues event attracting fans and performing Blues artists all over the island and beyond.
