LIVE MUSIC and CONCERTS
Snak the Ripper: All Ages, Fri @ 6:30pm, Nanaimo Entertainment Centre, $45/door
Snak the Ripper has gone from a relatively unknown West Coast journeyman emcee, to a cult phenom in only a few years. He has millions of views on YouTube, tours in Europe. The evening will see several acts perform from Konfidential, Prada West, Hurt Crew to DJ All Good.
A Spring Raggae Ting, Fri @ 10pm-2am, The Queens, $13/door
A packed program with Red Gold & Green, a soul-hip hop-reggae super group consisting of Vancouver’s soul/R&B sensation Tonye Aganaba and California underground emcees Dr. Oop and MC Nucleus, Ali & The Budz, Victoria’s premiere reggae band and Rebel Selector, Nanaimo based DJ and his multilingual selections of reggae vibes from around the world.
To The Shady Woods: Nature and Love, Sat @2pm, Port Theatre Lobby, $23
A Cappella Plus is performing a spring concert featuring several different songs taking you on a journey. This soul satisfying program will have you relaxing into the music, singing along, laughing and reflecting on the beauty of our lives. Enjoy a drink of your choice (cash bar available) before and during the concert, and at intermission help yourself to a snack.
The Enablers, Sat @8pm, Miller’s Pub
The ENABLERS are an explosive 4-piece party rockin’ dance band who know a few things about working a room and entertaining a crowd, wherever it may be. Their brand of sax fueled high- energy dance music has graced the stage of many venues on the Island
Dine Out with Aviva Chorus, Sat @ 5:30pm, St Philips’s By-The- Sea (Lantzville), $25
The theme of this concert is Just the Way We Are and will include choir pieces, special guest performances such as Chelsea Peckett’s solo piano piece, Nanaimo gay dancers, Mia Smith, and several duets. Enjoy a sit down pasta dinner, a silent and live auction, as well as door prices.
Country Night, Sat @8pm, Wheatsheaf Pub (Cedar)
A fun night with live country music by Sunny, Honey & Wild Bill covering contemporary to traditional songs.
BMW Opera Jam, Sun @2-4pm, BMW Nanaimo, by donation
This event will feature some of the best vocal talent from the mid-island region. Some of these performers will become star entertainers for Opera Nanaimo and elsewhere. Complimentary non-alcoholic beverages and canapes will be provided and there will be an opportunity to meet the performers after the concert.
THEATRE PRODUCTIONS and PLAYS
Buying the Moose (Play), Fr-Sat @ 7:30, Cedar Community Hall, $20
The play offers rollicking fun based on astute observations on the differences between how men and women think and the resulting miscommunication between the sexes. Before all the problems are resolved, secrets that the characters would have preferred remain private are revealed, and the audience learns the meaning of Buying the Moose
Urinetown, The Musical, Fri-Sat @ 8pm, Harbour City Theatre, $29.40
Honoured with three Tony Awards, Urinetown is a hilarious musical satire of the legal system, capitalism, social irresponsibility, populism, bureaucracy, corporate mismanagement, municipal politics and musical theatre itself!
52 Pick Up, Fri-Sat @ 7:30pm Malaspina Theatre (VIU), $25
In this unique play by BC writers TJ Dawe and Rita Bozi, two actors shuffle a deck of cards, toss them into the air, and perform each scene as the cards are randomly picked up. No two shows are the same, but the scenes add up to an overall impression of the relationship between the characters.

See this funny, enchanting and wonderfully touching offbeat comedy on the power of love in all its forms, in an intimate theatre setting. 2007 Olivier Award Nominee – Best New Comedy.

Out of the Ashes, Daily from 10am-5pm, Nanaimo Museum
OUT OF THE ASHES is an exhibit & fundraiser for the Nanaimo Arts Council. The exhibit includes artists who lost work in the fire in downtown Nanaimo and other local artists.
Walk & Bounce for Autism, Sat @ 10:30am, Caledonia Park
This is a FAMILY event with bouncy castles, displays from some resource providers, face painting, clowns, mascots, music, snacks etc. and FUN!
