FEATURED EVENT: 30th Annual Vancouver Island BookFest, Saturday all day @ various locations downtown

BookFest is a wonderful, fun-filled day for children and adults alike. Renowned authors and illustrators from across Canada are invited to present their work, tell stories about their creations and lives, and inspire youth through literature and art. Kids can register for different sessions, they will be music and food, face painting, giant bubbles, morning yoga, book signings and lots of FUN!



Acoustic Tribute to DAVID BOWIE, Fri @ 7pm, Dinghy Dock Pub, $20(incl. ferry)

An evening full of acoustic renditions of David Bowie songs by Vancouver Island musicians in a one-of-a-kind location

Fiddelium Concert, Fri @7pm, VIU Theatre, $15/adult

Fiddelium, is a group of exceptional young Nanaimo-area musicians playing traditional and contemporary fiddle music with a twist.


Boost the Block and Fight the Fire (Fundraiser), Sat @ 10-4pm, various locations downtown, $7/advance, $10/door

Nanaimo has rallied around the business owners who lost everything in the downtown fire. Enjoy an afternoon of great music in The Queens, The Vault and The Cambie and support this worthy cause.


Live at Longwood, Thu @8-10pm, Longwood Brew Pub, FREE

Enjoy great acoustic music, while sampling some of the local brews and indulge in a Nanaimo Bar Cheesecake.

Saturday Live Music, Fri-Sat @ 6-8pm, New York Style Pizza, FREE

Enjoy some great food and some live acoustic music by a local talent in Nanaimo’s beautiful Old City Quarter.


Urinetown, The Musical, Fri-Sat @ 8pm, Harbour City Theatre, $29.40

Urinetown is a hilarious musical satire of the legal system, capitalism, social irresponsibility, populism, bureaucracy, corporate mismanagement, municipal politics and musical theatre itself!

Vendors include farmers, bakers, crafters and anything else locally grown, made or baked.
Cedar Farmers Market, Sun @10-2pm, Crow and Gate Pub Field, FREE

The market boasts over 70 full time vendors making it one of the region’s largest.



Kasandra Flamenco’s Encuentros, Thur @7pm, Conference Centre, $30/adult

International Flamenco and Irish tap dancers, throw down the gauntlet and meet on the dance floor in this show.


Island Fantasy Ball, Sat-Sun all day, Beban Park Auditorium, $15-90

Top BC, Canadian and International couples will compete in all ten International Style Dances including the Waltz, Quickstep, Slow Fox, Tango, Viennese Waltz, Cha Cha, Rumba, Jive, Samba and Paso Doble.
