Wow! Festival Nanaimo has been a blast so far.
Here are some events to plan for this week!
Lucky Irish Spirit
St. Paddy’s Day! Friday, March 17th, we continue to celebrate all things Celtic with the Vancouver Island Symphony and the popular Celtic band, Rant Maggie Rant. Music from the seven Celtic nations as well as from Quebec and Canada’s East Coast. Wear your green and come enjoy the Ceili!

David Gogo’s Birthday Blues Bash
Get ready for the ultimate in blues party jams! Critically acclaimed blues hero, David Gogo, is having a birthday party and you are invited. The birthday boy will be joined on stage by David Vest, Shawn Hall and Shaun Verreault. This is a birthday party not to be missed.
Hops & Hounds
Who let the dogs out? We will! Festival Nanaimo, Pacific Island Entertainment and the good folks at Dog n’ Suds Pet Services are letting the dogs out to join us at Hops & Hounds, a fundraiser for the Nanaimo SPCA on Sunday, March 19th at Maffeo Sutton Park from 2 pm – 4 pm. Bring your pooch to be part of our group ‘Dog Photo’ – world record breaking, we hope! The “big picture” happens at 3 pm. We would like to know how many dogs and their human are planning to be in Nanaimo’s Largest Dog Group Photo on March 19. Register by midnight on March 18 and you will be automatically entered in the draw for a chance to Win two tickets to March 25th, Lion Bear Fox CD Release Concert at the Port Theatre and 2 Helijet Passes from Nanaimo to Vancouver to be used at anytime.
Pets and owners will also have a tail-wagging good time with the Nanaimo Kennel Club. They will be showcasing some of their purebred dogs, there will be demonstrations such as ‘Meet the Breed’ and “Dance with your Dog’. We will also get to see some of the wonderful therapy dogs that visit our local care homes.
Oh – let’s not forget about the beer! Nanaimo’s own White Sails Brewing and Longwood Brewery will provide some of the finest craft beer made on the Island. $2 for a tasting token. There will also be a delicious BBQ by Original Joe’s – yum!
Symphony of Roses
18th Annual Symphony of Roses Day happens on Wednesday, March 22nd. Send a dozen roses to a friend, family member and/or work colleague. Orders must be received by March 17th. Roses delivered on March 22nd by volunteers. Big thank you to Turley’s Florist for making this event so wonderful! All proceeds go directly to the VI Symphony.
